Easy Pita Bread Recipe
Let's travel to the middle east today!
Here's a simple recipe for fresh pita bread made from scratch.
Did you know?
The round pocket pita bread has been a staple food in the Middle East for 4000 years!
Flour- 6 cups
Yeast- 1 packet
Sugar- 1 teaspoon
Salt- 1 teaspoon
Olive oil- 4 tablespoons
Add 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 packet of yeast to 1 cup of warm water.
Give it one stir and let it rest for 15mins.
The yeast will become frothy and foamy.
Add 6 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoon olive oil and the yeast water to a bowl.
Knead the mixture until it forms a dough.
You may have to add a bit more warm water.
Step 4 & 5
Take the dough out of the bowl and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil in the bowl.
This is to line the bowl. So, spread the oil on the inside surface of the bowl with your fingers.
Add the kneaded dough to the bowl and cover it with a clean napkin.
Let it rest for 15mins.
After letting the dough rest, tear out golf ball size pieces and make round balls with the dough.
Flatten them using your palms and then put them on a flat surface or a chakla to roll them out.
Using a belan or any your hand, roll out the dough like rotis.
Now for the next step you will need your mommy's help.
Get your mommy to heat up a pan/tava and place the rolled dough on it.
Cook until its golden, airy and forms dark spots on the pita.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
Line a tray with baking paper and place pitas on it to cook.
Cook for about 5 to 6 minutes keeping an eye on it.
Remove when it turns golden and has some dark spots on it.
