Easy Pita Bread Recipe


Let's travel to the middle east today!

Here's a simple recipe for fresh pita bread made from scratch.

  • Flour- 6 cups

  • Yeast- 1 packet

  • Sugar- 1 teaspoon

  • Salt- 1 teaspoon

  • Olive oil- 4 tablespoons

Step 1

  • Add 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 packet of yeast to 1 cup of warm water.

Step 2

  • Give it one stir and let it rest for 15mins.

  • The yeast will become frothy and foamy.

Step 3

  • Add 6 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoon olive oil and the yeast water to a bowl.

  • Knead the mixture until it forms a dough.

  • You may have to add a bit more warm water.

Step 4 & 5

  • Take the dough out of the bowl and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil in the bowl.

  • This is to line the bowl. So, spread the oil on the inside surface of the bowl with your fingers.

  • Add the kneaded dough to the bowl and cover it with a clean napkin.

  • Let it rest for 15mins.

Step 6

  • After letting the dough rest, tear out golf ball size pieces and make round balls with the dough.

  • Flatten them using your palms and then put them on a flat surface or a chakla to roll them out.

  • Using a belan or any your hand, roll out the dough like rotis.

Step 7


  • Now for the next step you will need your mommy's help.

  • Get your mommy to heat up a pan/tava and place the rolled dough on it.

  • Cook until its golden, airy and forms dark spots on the pita.


  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.

  • Line a tray with baking paper and place pitas on it to cook.

  • Cook for about 5 to 6 minutes keeping an eye on it.

  • Remove when it turns golden and has some dark spots on it.
